At the time of booking, you may select a female or male massage therapist.

We offer 30, 60, and 90 minute appointments.

The standard treatment length is 60 minutes. This allows time to focus on a specific problem area, as well as for some work on the rest of your body.

A 90 minute session is ideal for focusing on multiple problem areas, or for a very thorough full body treatment.

A 30 minute session is great for a spot treatment of one problem area. This session length is not long enough for a full body treatment.

Yes! All of our massage therapists are well trained in deep tissue massage.

All of our massage therapists are trained in deep tissue and Swedish massage. Not all other modalities and services may be offered by all therapists. Please call and we can assist in finding the right therapist for your needs!

We offer simultaneous appointments for couples and groups, however we do not offer simultaneous appointments in the same room. If you cannot find the appointment times you are looking for online, please call us at 541-490-1444, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Please either call or text us at 541.490.1444 right away, or login to your account and cancel your appointment online. If we are unable to answer your call or you are calling outside of business hours, please leave a voicemail so that we know to cancel your appointment as soon as possible. Read the complete cancellation policy here.

If you are feeling ill the night before your scheduled appointment and you are uncertain if you will be able to keep your appointment, please cancel your appointment by calling or texting 541.490.1444 or logging in to your profile online. As soon as you notify us, we will begin trying to fill your scheduled appointment time with a client on the waiting list. The sooner we know that you will be unable to make your appointment, the more likely it is that we will be able to find a client for that time. We do our best to fill up last minute cancellations as we understand that nobody wants to be charged for a session they did not receive, but unfortunately it is not always possible. If we are unable to book another client in to your scheduled appointment time a late cancellation fee will be applied.

If you wake up with a fever, flu, or major cold on the day of your appointment, please contact us by phone at 541.490.1444 or cancel your appointment online right away, as massage is contra-indicated for these situations. Your body is working hard to fight your illness and massage therapy may put an additional strain on your system. We will do our best to book a client on the wait list for your cancelled appointment, but if we are unable to do so a late cancellation fee may be applied.

There is no cancellation fee for an appointment cancelled at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment time.

Should you miss your appointment or cancel it within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment time, you will be charged the cancellation fee which is equal to full rate for your selected service.

Please call as soon as possible if your scheduled appointment is within 24 hours and you realize you will be unable to keep it. If we are able to re-book your scheduled appointment time with another client, you will not be charged the cancellation fee. If we are unable to fill your appointment, then you will be charged the full cancellation fee for your selected service.

Read the complete cancellation policy here.

The cancellation fee may be waived in the case of an emergency.

If you are a new client, please arrive at our office ten (10) minutes prior to your appointment time in order to complete the intake forms, discuss your massage treatment needs, and prepare for the massage.

If you are an existing client, please arrive at our office five (5) minutes prior to your appointment time to allow us to discuss your massage treatment needs for the day and prepare for the massage.

When you arrive at our building, please wait in our lobby on the first floor (5th Street entrance). Your massage therapist will meet you in the lobby once it is time for your appointment.

If this is your first time at Holistic Massage of Hood River, you will have received a link in your appointment confirmation and reminder email/text asking that you complete a confidential client intake form prior to your appointment. If you prefer to fill out a paper intake form you may request that in the office, but please arrive early to allow time to complete it prior to your appointment's start time. The intake form requires approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

You will then review your intake form and discuss your needs with your massage therapist to determine the type of massage treatment most appropriate for you. Please do not hesitate to ask questions if you are unsure or have any concerns. For example, if you prefer a lighter or deeper massage, make that preference known. Although the massage therapist will discover your tight and sore areas during the course of the massage and will prioritize the time spent on these areas, telling your therapist about these problem areas now lets them prepare in advance.

The therapist will leave the treatment room for a few minutes to give you privacy to undress to your comfort level and get on the massage table and underneath the sheet. Place your head at the end of the table that has the face rest, a cushioned doughnut-shaped device, extending from the head of the table. Your massage therapist will knock on the door and ask if you are ready before re-entering the room.

Your therapist will let you know whether to begin the massage lying on your stomach or on your back. If you begin lying on your stomach, place your face in the face rest. This allows you to lie comfortably face down and keeps your shoulder and neck muscles relaxed, so you receive the most benefit from the massage.

During your massage the therapist will only uncover the part of your body being worked on to ensure your modesty is respected at all times.

The massage table is heated, so please advise the therapist if you are too hot or cold during the massage and the temperature will be adjusted accordingly.

If you have any questions or concerns (i.e. more/less pressure, discomfort, adjust music volume\type, etc.) at any time during the massage session please let your therapist know.

Once your massage therapy session is complete, your therapist will leave the room, allowing you a few minutes to relax and get dressed. Once you are dressed, please open the door and the therapist will re-enter the room.

We recommend that you drink plenty of water after your massage to flush out any minerals that were released and to rehydrate your muscles.

During your massage, make yourself comfortable. Some people prefer to close their eyes and relax, others prefer to talk. This is entirely up to you. The massage therapist will either tell you what is needed or gently move you (such as lifting your arm) as required through the session. Please let the massage therapist know if there is anything we can do to make you more comfortable.

At any time during the massage please let your massage therapist know if, for example:

  • the room is too hot or too cold
  • you experience pain
  • you would like deeper or lighter pressure
  • you have any questions related to the massage
  • you prefer different music or the volume adjusted
  • there’s anything you forgot to mention during the consultation

You should undress to your comfort level. You will be draped appropriately with a sheet for the entire session. Some clients choose to undress completely, and some choose to leave their underwear, boxer shorts, or other clothing on.

Whether to leave a tip for your massage therapist at Holistic Massage of Hood River is completely optional. Some clients choose to tip their massage therapist and others do not. While certainly not expected, tips are always appreciated.

The term 'holistic' comes from the Greek word 'holos' meaning whole.

The philosophy of holistic massage is to approach each person as a whole, taking into consideration a person’s complete physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. The goal is to restore balance within the body.

A holistic philosophy considers everything to be interconnected, including a persons' physical body, along with their mental, emotional and spiritual health.

This means that if a person is experiencing neck pain, it may be the result of physical issues elsewhere in the body, tight back muscles or overused forearm muscles for example. Or it could be a result of mental or emotional stress due to a person or situation in one’s life that is literally “a pain in the neck!” Another example could be a person experiencing low back pain. This could be the result of tight hamstrings, or of emotional or mental stress due to a feeling of carrying a heavy load or burden in life.

These examples can also be taken to a deeper level of spiritual or energetic balance. Imbalances in the chakras, or energetic centers in the body, can be associated with physical pain. For example, neck pain can be associated with an imbalance in the throat (fifth) chakra, which is connected to communicating and expressing oneself clearly. Or, low back pain can be associated with an imbalance in the root (first) chakra, which is connected to feelings of belonging, security, and survival needs. Read more about chakras here.

At least one massage session a month is recommended for stress prevention and physical maintenance. More frequent massage sessions may be needed during stressful periods or to treat chronic tightness.

When treating an acute injury, multiple massage sessions each week may help speed the recovery process and prevent scar tissue buildup.

Please contact us at 541.490.1444 and we will be happy to create a customized treatment plan for you.

Massage provides feedback about your body so you can make lifestyle adjustments. It also lets you take time for yourself. Clients often find that their muscles were tighter and more tender than they realized. We can help you learn how to listen to your body and determine which areas need work. There are many benefits to massage, both physical and emotional.

Massage therapy is beneficial for many health conditions, including:

• Low back pain
• Chronic sports injuries
• Arthritis
• Fatigue
• High blood pressure
• Diabetes
• Osteoarthritis
• Fibromyalgia
• Pain or tingling in arms or legs
• Headaches
• Insomnia
• Edema

Regular massage can help boost immunity, improve sleep, assist injury rehabilitation, increase mobility, and ease the side effects of cancer treatment. Massage can also help manage depression, as well as relieve symptoms of conditions that are aggravated by anxiety, such as asthma or insomnia.

Perhaps just as important, massage also helps relieve the stress and tension caused by our busy lives that can lead to disease and illness. Reducing stress gives you more energy, improves your outlook on life, and in the process reduces your likelihood of injury and illness.

Massage is appropriate for people of all ages!

When working with elderly clients assistance is provided getting on and off the massage table if necessary and special care is taken to be gentle and attend to your individual needs.

Kids, especially the active ones we have in the Gorge, benefit from massage therapy just like Mom and Dad! In fact, we frequently work with child athletes. Children experiencing growing pains, such as the pain associated with Osgood Schlotter disease (knee pain associated with growth spurts in adolescents), benefit from regular massage as well.

Infants and babies can benefit from Craniosacral Therapy. More information can be found here .

Please call us at 541.490.1444 for more information.

There are some conditions during which you should not get a massage. If you have any of the following conditions, you should not receive a massage:

•Fracture
•Heart disease
•Infectious disease
•Kidney or liver disease
•Pre-eclampsia/eclampsia
•Pregnancy-induced diabetes
•Severe cold/flu

•Systemic infections
•Toxemia

These guidelines protect both the patient and the therapist. If you are unsure if a condition prohibits you from getting a massage, please contact us before your appointment.

Yes! We have massage therapists trained in prenatal massage. You will be positioned either on your side with lots of pillows for support and comfort, or face down with a special pregnancy cushion.

Absolutely! There are many different types and causes of headaches. Massage is very effective in alleviating many of these. Additionally, we can also incorporate aromatherapy using essential oils known to help alleviate headaches and migraines into your massage, such as frankincense, peppermint, chamomile, and wintergreen.

Yes! All of our massage therapists are well trained in deep tissue massage.

This treatment involves a very light touch and works to restore balance to the craniosacral system in the body. More details can be found here.

Warmed stones may either be directly placed on your body-along the spine, in the palms of hands, or on the soles of feet, or used as massage tools to warm and relax your muscles. The effects of this massage are long lasting and will leave you with a deep sensation of relaxation and well being.

Heated stones have been used for centuries in various healing ways. Stones, coming from the earth, inherently offer grounding and centering. The hot stones we use were collected along both the Oregon and Nova Scotia Coasts.

Aromatic essential oils are known to promote physical and psychological well-being. For example, lavender has a balancing and calming effect, chamomile can be helpful for relieving seasonal allergy symptoms, and sandalwood soothes stress, anxiety, and can help alleviate insomnia.

When adding aromatherapy to a massage, you have the option to have the essential oils of your choice added to the massage lotion or oil you choose, and applied to part or all of your body. Or you may opt to have the oils placed in a location for you to inhale throughout your session. Aromatherapy adds another dimension to your massage, engaging more of your senses.

Add aromatherapy to any treatment for a small fee.

We offer simultaneous appointments for couples and groups, however we do not offer simultaneous appointments in the same room. If you cannot find the appointment times you are looking for online, please call us at 541-490-1444, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
